Built for The Wilds
Newer estate homes like the ones going up across The Wilds are built around open-plan living, double-volume glazing and sliding walls onto the patio — a very different brief to the smaller punched windows of an older Pretoria suburb, and one that changes what actually works on the glass.
Specified for light, not for looksDrop a sunscreen down the west glass and the afternoon sun patch retreats off the floor while the view stays. One coherent fabric and colour specification, fitted panel by panel across a whole new home — not patched together room by room.
Before you choose a single blind
A free, researched read on what the Highveld sun actually does to an estate home full of glass across the year — elevation by elevation, which rooms suffer, and what we'd fit on each, with the honest catch on every choice. No email needed to read it.
Inside the guide
How it works
No showroom trek, no guessing sizes off a floor plan — the consultation happens where the windows actually are.
Two minutes on the enquiry form — rooms, rough sizes, what's bothering you about the light.
A consultant arrives with samples, measures every opening precisely, and matches fabrics to each room's real light.
Every opening priced on its own line, lead times included. No obligation, no pressure calls. So you can budget before we arrive: shading in these homes spans R1,000 up to R7,500 for each square metre, installation included. Where any window lands depends on the product and on whether it is hand-worked or motorised. The tiniest openings still meet a minimum, and firm figures come out of the measure.
Manufactured for your exact openings and installed cleanly by our own team, with a demo before we leave.
About this service
The Wilds Blinds is a made-to-measure shading service covering The Wilds and the estates that sit around it — Woodhill, Six Fountains, Boardwalk Meander and Mooikloof. Everything we fit is manufactured for one opening in one house: roller blinds, day-night blinds, cellular blinds and motorised systems, sized off the glass rather than trimmed down from a standard width. On new-build glazing that distinction is not cosmetic, because a blind cut to the nearest common size is exactly what leaves a light gap down the side of a two-metre slider.
The order of work is fixed. You send the enquiry form or use the chat, and one of our expert consultants will contact you shortly to book a free in-home measure. At that visit each opening is measured, and fabric, openness and the way you will actually operate the blind are settled for each room in turn, against however much light it takes. The quote that follows is written down and split out window by window. Approve it and the order is made to those measurements and fitted by the installers, levelled and demonstrated before they leave the house.
Whatever you send us exist for one purpose, booking the call-back, and POPIA governs what happens to them: no lists, nothing passed on.
Where we work
Questions
No — everything is made to measure for the exact opening, including the wide sliding-door runs and double-volume glass common in newer estate homes. Where a single fabric width can't span the opening cleanly, we split it with a central join or motorise linked blinds instead.
In order of effect: an exterior screen or awning stops heat before it reaches the glass, sunscreen fabric inside cuts glare and load while keeping the view, and motorisation with a sun sensor means it happens on schedule whether you're home or not.
If you're still at plaster stage, wiring motors in is straightforward and avoids visible cabling. On wide sliders, high glass and multi-blind walls it's the difference between blinds you actually use and blinds you don't — and wind-sensored motors are genuine protection for anything exterior in storm season.
Nothing. The in-home measure, the fabric samples, the consultation and the written per-window quote are all free, with no obligation.
Chain and cord tensioners are fitted as standard on anything corded, and we'll steer nurseries and kids' rooms toward wand, cordless or motorised options with nothing dangling within reach.
Yes. Snapped cords, a tube that won't hold, a tired tilt mechanism, blinds knocked loose when a room was painted — we restring, refit and replace parts on existing blinds too. Where a part is genuinely obsolete we'll tell you straight rather than chase it for weeks.

Tell us a little about the windows. A consultant phones back to set a time that works for you, and the fabric samples come to the house so you judge them in the light of the room itself.
